I think I don't like the church idea. Facebook, this blog, and http://www.kiva.org/community/viewTeam?team_id=94 are my churches.

Why call it a church, when it's not? Churches are places people have gotten together in for centuries to entertain fantasies, and compare clothing. I want reality. ...and my clothes suck anyway...

I would like to make something clear. Just in case there is someone out there that believes in a "all loving, all knowing, all powerful god" - atheists don't. Simple as that. We are a-theist. Non-theists. Non god believers. Get it?

I think it is a good idea as well. My concern is that this gives ammunintion to the argument that "atheism is religion requiring faith". Of course this is not true, but it rings true too many people. Personally I would try to steer clear of any words like "church" that have religious connotations in the popular public mindset. Having said that, I have to admit, I am an ordained minister in the First Church of Atheism. ;-P. www.firstchurchofatheism.com

My name is FMF and I am a plebeian!

There are loads of people everywhere that congregate for all kinds of reasons. If a label like "church" is to be used, so be it. As long as everybody is clear on the purpose of the gathering.

Getting together, having weekly "preachers" discussing issues of ethics, skepticism, atheism, science, morality and all of that good stuff - sounds like a great idea to me.

I keep thinking about the Philosophy Cafe in Nanaimo, Canada. The whole evening consists of a "preacher" guest speaker, and group discussions. All of this takes place in the span of one hour!

What Nanaimo needs is some serious discourse on these very though provoking issues. Hopefully we can discuss these issues for more than 1 hour.

Sadly, only in Democratic/liberal circles in America have women gained equal rights with men in terms of what it means to be challenged publicly by a man (cf Hillary Clinton).

It is so sad that "condescendtion" has come to be equivalent wiith "not dumbing yourself down to someone else's level" in the public view. It is a Vice Presidential debate for Crissakes. LOL And the public would penalize someone for exhibiting his superiority??? Maybe that country is not ready for a female leader after all. Or at least not one they cannot bear to see treated like a vice presidential candidate.

Well, what I was wondering was why the f**ckin' dry grad is so freakin' expensive?! If kids (and their parents) are so worried about tuition fees etc., splurge on the $40 bottle of hard liquor. I think I saw something like a dry grad fee of over $100/per person!

I just got some photos of someone's dry grad - even without alcohol these kids were sitting on chairs in the back of a pick up driving down the street. So, let me see if I get this -- drinking, drinking driving = bad, but not drinking, not wearing seatbelts and putting lots o people in the back of a moving vehicle = good ?!? Good grief.
